Nkosikhona

Nkosikhona was just six years old when we met him. One of his family’s neighbours had informed us that the boy’s grandfather would always have to carry him out of the house. Inside, we found Nkosikhona crawling on the floor. In 2019, Utho Ngathi was able to procure a special wheelchair for Nkosikhona.

Then something happened that nobody in his circle would have believed: thanks to our home visit programme and regular therapeutic treatment, Nkosi (as we call him) took his first small steps. Six months later he received a special wheeled frame, which he uses to work hard on his walking. He continues to make steady progress.

Through our network in Soweto, we were able to secure Nkosi a place at Adelaide Tambo Special School, which caters to children with disabilities. The school not only offers a sound education but also rehabilitation from skilled therapists. Nobody is happier about this than his grandfather, who can now work during the day while Nkosi is at school.
